Saxon Woods Park Trail

Saxon Woods Park Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Situated on 700 acres in the heart of Westchester County, Saxon Woods Park offers dogs and their owners an opportunity to experience nature amid a busy area. Named for William Saxon, who operated a sawmill on the west branch of the Mamaroneck River in colonial times, Saxon Woods is split into two sections. Primarily dedicated to hiking trails, the park’s southern section offers human and canine hikers and runners an easy hike across gentle terrain."

I discovered this by hearing about Wildman Steve Brill's nature walks. This is one of the few places near White Plains to get some easy exposure to a forest. There are some beautiful trees in here, compared to typical Westchester.

I found the trail I hiked to be extremely clean, which was a wonderful surprise. Thank you, thank you, thank you for keeping it that way. There's not a lot of climbing in here; most of it is quite flat and wide. That being said, if you're looking to get away from concrete and exhaust for awhile, this is a really nice spot.

I can't honestly say I've walked the entire trail. There are many trails in this park, none of which are marked. I've been coming to the park for about 2 years now and have walked many of the trails while geocaching. The terrain is gentile and the paths are well worn. I would recommend having a hand held GPSr so you will at least have a bread crumb trail should you get disorientated. I've seen many people with dogs and mountain biking. Overall, it is a beautiful park.

Short & sweet. Spring thaw made for some interesting creek crossings. Not exactly wilderness but a fun hike close to home.

We did not like this trail very much. The trail was hard to follow. The markers on the trees were faded and there are alot of places that the trail will go off into other directions. If u go on this trail, make sure you stay on the traveled path.
