Middle and Lower Falls, Monroe County

Middle and Lower Falls, Monroe County Professional Review and Guide

"Explore the mighty Genesee River and feel its powerful spray at close range.

You can hear the falls from the parking area, a massive 110-foot cataract that pours down with such force that you can be soaked with spray just by viewing it from the Driving Park Bridge in front of you. Be prepared to get a little wet, because this hike takes you to a viewing platform where the spray hits you square in the face. This is the point at which the Genesee River makes its final major drop before flowing into Lake Ontario a few miles north of here.

The river drops a total of 300 feet from High Falls (see High Falls, Monroe County) through Middle Falls—now just a sluiceway for a hydropower plant—and then at this final plunge."
