A bluff-top view of a freshwater tidal marsh awaits you at the end of this trail, while the route through wild, open meadows and dense woodlands reveals habitat for a wide assortment of birds, butterflies, and small furry creatures. It may surprise you that the Hudson River is affected by the Atlantic Ocean tides, but the ebb and flow that reach the river’s mouth in Long Island Sound have an influence upriver all the way to the Federal Dam in Troy. The complex ecosystem is known as the Hudson River Estuary, and one of the best places to see how its tides create a freshwater marsh is at the end of this trail.
