Letchworth State Park East of Genesee River

Letchworth State Park (East of Genesee River) Professional Review and Guide

"The Parade Grounds was an infantry parade grounds during the Civil War. The unplowed park road heads first downhill, then gradually uphill to a network of trails on the plateau above the Genesee River valley. Bear left to Big Bend for views of the gorge cliffs where they’re the highest. At Big Bend, the Genesee River almost doubles over on itself. This twisting is unusual for such deep canyons. In its early days, more than 10,000 years ago, the Genesee River crossed a plateau. It was free to sidewind like a snake as it began to cut through the sandstone and shale. Once the winding course was set, the river dug its way down to create the 600-foot cliffs of today. Loop back on any of the other trails which are a combination of dirt roads and woods trails. Terrain: Flat, gentle slopes."
