Rockefeller Preserve Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Offering 1066 acres of unspoiled forest, meadows, and wetlands, Rockefeller State Park Preserve is the ideal location for a day out with your best friend. Once the site of the Rockefeller family’s Pocantico Hills estate, the land that now makes up this preserve was deeded to New York State by the family beginning in 1983. Twenty miles of carriage-road trails offer hiking and horseback-riding visitors easy access to the park’s many splendors and a multitude of options for hikes short and long. This is a rambling exploratory hike offering you and your canine companion the opportunity to experience the park to its fullest."

This is an incredibly beautiful, very varied, series of trails, close to NYC, very dog friendly. Loved it. My dogs were in heaven.

So, I'm conflicted in what to write about Rockefeller.

The surroundings are incredible with ponds, creeks, hills and gorgeous nature. Then again, it's not really a hiking trail at all. Dogs really aren't supposed to be off leash at all since this is an active preserve. The horseback riding crowd requires consideration and during most hours of the day the traffic is pretty heavy. Then again, once you make it to the Thirteen Bridges trail, it's like you're in wonderland. Hills, creeks, solitude and lots of nature discovery. Could be featured in a Jane Austen story.

Overall: a beautiful walk or run, but be prepared to leash up.
