Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"This historic canal towpath is now an 84-mile recreational trail, a developed stretch of the canal’s total 360 miles. This section reveals the canal’s famous Great Embankment, meanders through three charming towns, and offers food, drink, and services at each end and at its midpoint. We won’t actually travel “15 miles on the Erie Canal”—we’ll stop at 6, enough for a satisfying walk along the water on a fine spring day or a crisp fall afternoon.
