Pawling Nature Preserve

Pawling Nature Preserve Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Take your first steps on the Appalachian Trail in this delicious little preserve, where the cool forest hides a waterfall and lots of tiny streams. Rescued by concerned neighbors and the Nature Conservancy from centuries of settlement, grazing, and logging, Pawling Nature Preserve now features hemlock and second-growth oak forests, healthy wetlands, and an impressively rocky gorge. The dominant feature, the 1,053-foot Hammersly Ridge, towers over the gorge and provides a vantage point for views of the adjacent Great Swamp—if you choose to climb to its summit."
