At the harbor’s southernmost end, the beach at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park is ideally situated as a starting point for a paddle virtually anywhere on Oyster Bay. Kayak here during the late spring and summer, though, and most of the southern harbor will be fi lled with both moored and moving boats. So it’s usually wise to hug the shore instead of paddling straight out onto the water. With that in mind, I usually prefer to start my trip around the harbor clockwise, pointing my bow fi rst to the west.
