Old Fort Niagara State Historic Site / Beach Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This historic site predates the French and Indian Wars. You can walk along lookout points that French soldiers occupied as far back as the 1600s.
We’ve made the assumption that while you are at Fort Niagara State Park, you will take advantage of the opportunity to tour the 300-year- old Old Fort Niagara. Stop at the visitor center and see the informational movie about the fort, visit the history museum, and then walk through two centuries of military installations, from the 1726 French castle to the land defenses and casemate gallery, both circa 1872. Your visit will give context to the strategic position the rest of this park once held in the battles between French, British, and American troops stationed here on this lookout point between the United States and Canada."
