My husband, three toy poodles, and I did this hike. We missed the Lichen Trail blaze and continued on the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail until we got to Time Square and picked up the ASB trail from there. Looking at the map I don't think we lost much on distance but I can't imagine the decent via the Lichen trail could have been any steeper than the RD Trail. (Little pat on the back for me AND my dogs.) We didn't spot the mine shaft either, but really enjoyed vistas on the way. Bring plenty of water when you go. Our time out was just under 4 hours and 15 minues.:)

Even without a dog, a pleasant hike. No strenuous elevation, but moderate ascents and descents throughout the 5+ miles through lovely, varied terrain. Not much water or great views on top, but plenty of 6-foot blueberry bushes to compensate. Lake area was crowded, but this hike was not. New blazes (turquoise, not teal) ensure you won't get lost, but twice we missed turnoffs and had to figure out alternatives. With lunch and blueberry picking, we were out 4 hours.
