Montauk Point Professional Review and Guide
"Paddle off the rocky beach on the north side of Montauk Point State Park, and you’ll be fl oating on a body of water known as Block Island Sound. You probably won’t be able to see Block Island from here, as it’s more than 14 miles to the northeast, though you should have a good view of the iconic Montauk Point Lighthouse in the distance over your right shoulder. From this section of beach, known as Montauk’s “False Point,” the lighthouse sits just 0.5 mile along the rock-strewn coast, roughly marking the point where Block Island Sound ends and the Atlantic Ocean begins. In fact, if you paddle to the lighthouse and beyond, you’ll be riding the ocean swell as it rolls toward the Ditch Plains shore."
