Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge and Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area Trail

Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge & Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge and Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area join together with Oak Orchard Wildlife Management Area to form a total of 19,000 acres of impounded marshlands for the nurturing of wildlife. Wildlife abounds on this trail, which in a previous era was called Feeder Road. On our trip, for example, deer watched from ahead on the path as we approached. Deciding we might be a threat, they leaped for cover with white tails flying. Great blue herons flew overhead, spreading large wings, and squawking their displeasure at us. White egrets spied us from treetops and fished in open pools."

One thing not included in the description above is that there is no designated "trial". You will not see a sign or any other designation that there is a "Iroquois NWR and Tonawanda Management Area Trail". The map shows Feeder Road to the south of Lewiston Road and Judge Road to the north. This is wrong. Feeder Road is on both sides of Lewistion Road. Trail users should also be aware that some areas off of Feeder Road on Iroquois are closed during nesting season (March - July 15). For accurate information on Iroquois NWR visit their website http://www.fws.gov/northeast/iroquois. Beware that the maps used on this site are inacurate.
