Times Square/Theater District Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"What once was called Longacre Square was renamed for The New York Times in 1904, the year that the newspaper moved its offices to a spanking-new skyscraper on 42nd Street. Ever since, Times Square has been a mecca for performance and splashy advertisement, such as the huge billboard for Camel cigarettes that showed a man blowing smoke rings.
That’s gone, but now the Naked Cowboy strolls around strumming a guitar and wearing little more than a wide-brimmed hat. Almost all of the Broadway theaters are located here, plus innumerable stores, restaurants, and special attractions."
