Lenox Hill

Lenox Hill Professional Review and Guide

"At first blush, one of the more economically intimidating sections of Manhattan would be the Upper East Side, including the section known as Lenox Hill. The neighborhood, which spans the East 60s and 70s from Fifth Avenue to Lexington Avenue, gets its name from the Lenox family, wealthy merchants and landowners who lived here in the early to mid–19th century. It has so many high-end boutiques and stores, especially along Madison Avenue—plus, of course, Bloomingdale’s flagship store—that a moneyed aura is undeniable. Add to that the imposing apartment buildings on Park Avenue, and privilege seems a given here.

Lenox Hill is a place for everyone, though. Hunter College, a public institution, educates undergraduate and graduate students of many different backgrounds. Lenox Hill Hospital tends to the health needs of all, and the spiritually inclined have a variety of places to worship. This area is also within walking distance of Central Park and all its joys."
