Central Greenwich Village Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"When most people think of Greenwich Village, they think of Washington Square Park and the area around it. Books, movies, TV shows, and songs have long celebrated the hustle and bustle of the park and its art-all-around, life-on-stage ambience. The other entity most closely associated with the neighborhood is New York University, spread among more than 20 schools and institutes.
There are beautiful houses of worship; spots for live music and theater; and endless places to eat, drink, and shop. Architecture buffs will appreciate the myriad styles and structures represented here, particularly the jewel-like 19th-century mews houses tucked away in private alleys. For people-watching, celebrating, or chance-taking, this is a prime neighborhood for experiencing the New York life."
