High Falls Gorge Professional Review and Guide
"The network of trails, stairs, and bridges here provide extraordinary access to one of the area’s most spectacular falls.
Normally Nic and I approach “attractions” with some dubiousness, but High Falls Gorge lives up to and even surpasses its own hype. This truly breathtaking series of falls—and I don’t use that word lightly—plummets through a narrow granite gorge, a sight made even more impressive by the network of boardwalks, stairs, and bridges that bring visitors so close to the falls. We can only imagine the feat of engineering required to create this amazingly unobtrusive walkway system.
The Ausable River flows through this gorge, but it did not actually create the crevasse you can explore here. Some 1.5 billion years ago, a major upheaval took place that thrust the Adirondack Mountains up in a massive dome shape, meanwhile splitting the earth here and in other places throughout the area."
