"Birds and bees, beaches and trees, from boardwalks to blufftops, Sunken Meadow packs a rich range of nature into a short stretch of trail. This serene, scenic hike offers extended contact with Long Island Sound and the Nissequogue River, passes fleetingly through an isolated upland forest, and culminates at a spooky old lunatic asylum, where the palatial grounds are landscaped with flowering fruit trees, dogwoods, and daffodils." Great little starter hike to bring your kids or your four legged friend. Dogs are allowed in the wooded part of the park, but from the Smithtown landing parking lot. Not the main beach parking lot by the picnic tables. Deer visit the park in late summer, and there are raspberry bushes that bloom along the trail in season.

This was a incredible hike starting out along the boardwalk the progressing into the woods. There were a few areas where the trail needed better markings since several routes crossed each other. I would enjoy going back some day. Hope you enjoy as muchas I do. There is a $10 per car entry fee into the park, well the the money.

This was a very nice trail. The trail could use a few more markers, but it would be nearly impossible to get lost even if you went the wrong direction. There is a beautiful waterfall and some nice outlooks. The trail is not very challenging, but it is a good workout with nice views and is very conveniently located.

Nice trails. Not too tough. A decent workout. A nice view of the reservoir at the vista point.
