"This high-elevation piece of heaven was purchased by the Finger Lakes Land Trust in 1999 from the children of Rochester-area artists John C. Wenrich, James Havens and Colburn Dugan, who had used the area for peace, quiet, and contemplation. Thanks to their wish to protect this land for future generations, we can all enjoy its serenity. Another parcel was added to the preserve when the Humane Society of Rochester and Monroe County sold a plot to the Finger Lakes Land Trust that had been donated to them by Anna V. Brown. A bargain price and a generous anonymous donor helped seal the deal. The preserve now encompasses 359 acres and includes old-growth forests, fields, wetlands, streams, ponds, and deep gorges. We did these trails as a family and it was a nice hike, a little buggy since it was prime black fly season. The trails are well marked, the terrain was moderate and overall it was worth the trek from Rochester to do these trails. We brought the dogs and had them leashed but there were others with dogs who were not. All the dogs were friendly, but know that the locals walk their dogs on these trails. Will be a good hike in the fall with colors turning.
