Braddock Bay Raptor Research Trail

Braddock Bay Raptor Research Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Visit Braddock Bay Raptor Research Trail in the spring to get a close look at owls and hawks as they migrate north. Upwards of 100,000 hawks, eagles, falcons, and vultures migrate over Braddock Bay along Lake Ontario each spring. The birds find it difficult to fly over the cold waters of Lake Ontario and prefer to fly around it. Braddock Bay is located on a point where the shoreline dips south. Because of the dip, birds stop to rest and get concentrated in this area during migration. Surface: Woodchip path and boardwalks."

More Braddock Bay Raptor Research Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"Braddock Bay has excellent waterfowl hunting and fishing, including ice fishing in winter. Numerous creeks empty into the bay, with Salmon Creek being the biggest. Birding and fishing from a canoe or boat is a lot of fun. At times the outlet into Lake Ontario can get a bit rough, so it’s not recommended that anyone take a canoe into this area. Even with a larger boat, you may hit bottom or shear a prop if you don't navigate the channel properly. Birds Likely Seen: Buteo and accipiter hawks, eagles, owls, ducks, geese, turkey vultures, warblers, bluebirds, goldfinches and typical woodland birds."
