    Middle Saranac Lake

    Middle Saranac Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The middle of three Saranac lakes remains the least heavily traveled because of more difficult access. You can launch from the South Creek hand-carry access on Route 3, or carry the half mile through Bartlett Carry from Upper Saranac Lake, or pass through the lock that connects Middle and Lower Saranac lakes. Middle Saranac lies along two popular long-distance canoe routes. One comes down from the hamlet of Saranac Inn, traversing the length of Upper Saranac to Bartlett Carry, east to Middle Saranac, through the outlet stream into Lower Saranac, and then either directly to Saranac Lake town or through Ossetah Lake to the town site. The second route travels the length of Long Lake to Axton Landing, up through Stony Creek Ponds, with a three-quarter-mile carry to Upper Saranac, a 2-mile paddle to Bartlett Carry, finishing as previously. Habitat type: large lake with marshy coves and outlet stream"
