Upper Delaware River / Roebling Bridge Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Take in the views of a National Scenic and Recreational River at its most admired and celebrated crossing.
What this brisk walk lacks in challenge it definitely makes up in scenic beauty, with the added boost of technological ingenuity. Here you have the opportunity to see and walk across the oldest existing wire cable suspension bridge in the United States, one that once carried the waters of the Delaware and Hudson Canal over another waterway, the Upper Delaware River.
Park in the area provided at the bridge and begin your walk at the clearly marked trailhead. Walk east along the gentle river for 0.5 mile to Minisink Ford, location of a hamlet that became the site of a Revolutionary War battle in 1779. The short trail ends here, so once you’ve enjoyed the view and perhaps a picnic lunch, you’ll turn around and walk back to the Roebling Bridge. At this point, it’s only natural to turn onto the bridge and cross into Pennsylvania."
