Mashomack Preserve

Mashomack Preserve Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Covering the southeastern third of Shelter Island, this 2,039-acre preserve of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) encompasses a maritime environment of tidal creeks, woodlands, fields, swamps, freshwater ponds, and 12 miles of stirring but inaccessible coastline.

Four interlocking color-coded trails and the wheelchair- and- stroller-friendly 1-mile Joan Coles Trail introduce the preserve. A nature garden displays common vegetation, and the preserve supports a natural osprey nesting colony and a rare pine swamp."

The trail was great.. Broke a little sweat, nice work out, and great photo opportunities. Can't wait to try this one in the spring and fall.
