Glens Falls Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A mighty legend now powers a great state. If you’re a fan of James Fenimore Cooper’s most successful novel, The Last of the
Mohicans, then you know all about Glens Falls. In fact, perhaps you’ve already visited Cooper’s Cave, the author’s inspiration for the “dark and silent caves” in which Hawkeye and his Mohican Indian traveling companions found shelter for the book’s two heroines and their guide.
Cooper describes this cave as being hidden behind the falls, and when he saw it for the first time in 1825, Glens Falls probably did mask its place—but today, a dam harnesses this falls and sends water through a millpond into turbines to generate electricity for Finch Paper LLC."
