Sugarloaf South

Sugarloaf South Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This short, yet scenic minor peak of the Hudson Highlands near a major regional landmark offers views of West Point and a changing forest. Sugarloaf Hill, sometimes called Sugarloaf South to distinguish it from the other Sugarloaf (north of Breakneck Ridge) in the eastern Hudson Highlands, is the pointy peak seen when looking upriver from the Bear Mountain Bridge. Like other similarly named mountains, its name derives from the loaves sugar was sold in before granulation was possible. Hiking this mountain is a sweet experience, and the views are similar to those found on higher peaks, but without the rock scrambles."
