Lost Pond and Weston Mountain Trail

Lost Pond and Weston Mountain Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The town of Keene is a hikers’ haven. It seems as though every highway and back road leads to a mountain trailhead. Thousands of hikers flock to the High Peaks to the west of Keene Valley, and in winter they literally have to be bussed to one unplowed trailhead. To the east, the somewhat smaller mountains are nearly as popular for their views of the High Peaks. Skiers enjoy the wide trails that trace the valleys and notches, but the mountain climbs are largely the realm of the snowshoers. Tucked away in this mountainous region are a handful of small tarns rimmed with snow-laden spruces and firs. Lost Pond, nestled on a shoulder of Weston Mountain in the Hurricane Mountain Primitive Area, is as beautiful and secluded as any that you will find. Easily reached by a well-maintained trail, the pond is also the site of an attractive lean-to. The view from the north end of the pond across to Hurricane Mountain is outstanding."
