Despite the misleading moniker of the trail, there are no mountains in Central New York. Rather, the landscape is dotted with forested, oversteepened hills, the vestiges of an ancient seabed upturned by a continental collision and then sculpted by massive ice sheets. Nearly uniform in character and practically the same height, these odd hilltops are everywhere in the Finger Lakes and Central New York. e trail here climbs to the top of two of these hills, and, unlike on many other hilltops in the region, here you are rewarded with a couple of vistas that reveal how uniform these hilltops are.
