Stony Brook State Park 9 falls

Stony Brook State Park (9 falls) Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Along the trail you’ll pass brown posts with yellow numbers painted on the top. Pick up a green brochure at the park office to read about the area you’re hiking through as noted by the posts. The route described below takes the Gorge Trail out and returns via the Rim Trail. The Rim Trail offers birds-eye views into the gorge and waterfalls far below but it is quite rugged, with lots of steps up and down. For a less strenuous trip, head out and return via the Gorge Trail."

"Explore a time-sculpted shale gorge lined with stone stairs and crisscrossed by sturdy wooden bridges, to view one rushing falls after another. One of the gems of New York’s state park system, this Southern Tier favorite offers able-bodied hikers an adventurous walk along the banks of Stony Brook, with plenty of ups and downs as you follow the waterway through the park’s gorge. Very much a creation of the last ice age, both the brook and the gorge originated with the ice as it carved through the area’s ubiquitous shale, and then as it melted and filled the cracks with water."
