Glimmerglass State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The family-friendly campground at Glimmerglass State Park lies in the heart of New York’s Leatherstocking region, a hilly collection of farms and small towns named after James Fenimore Cooper’s five novels that together are known as The Leatherstocking Tales. They include The Pioneers, The Deer slayer, and, most famously, The Last of the Mohicans. In Cooper’s classic stories, set during the French and Indian War, the sparkling Otsego Lake is known as Glimmerglass. Though born in New Jersey, Cooper spent his childhood and formative years in this area when his family moved to what would become Cooperstown, and the area greatly influenced his writing."
