Fahnestock Greater Hidden Lake Tour Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Relatively smooth, wide pathways make this a foot-friendly environment, one in which you may see an array of avians at any of three ponds and their related wetlands. Glacial erratics, rocky uplift, ridgetop rambles, and a dynamic stream-crossing lend extra frisson to the shady terrain, while an elusive air of mystery emanates from the overgrown remnants of 19th-century iron-mining operations."

Very nice, secluded trail along the Black River. Relatively easy walk over several small ridgelines.

Better than I expected. The red trail was a good climb in a cool looking area right along the river.

What a wonderful treat in a suburban setting!
We atarted at the old mill and were luck to find a tour just starting. They really let the water wheel grind the corn for us - what a great experience. We live 30 min. away so this was a wonderful afternoon hike.

We hiked the entire loop from the mill to the Kay Env. Center back up to the mill. We had an enjoyable afternoon. Not too strenuous, but enough to get your blood pumping. We would recommend this to anyone who wanted to get out for the afternoon. The black river was beautiful and once we got south of the pond we saw only one other couple on the trail.
The trail is well blazed but it is easy to get lost if you don't pay attention. We had to turn around twice when we realized we were no longer following the blue blazes.
My only hold back on a 5 star is that there were no views or overlooks.
