Stone Valley

Stone Valley Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"In the towns of Colton, Pierrepont, and Parishville, this moderately difficult wooded trail rounds an exciting 3.2-mile stretch of the Raquette River.

Waterfalls, rapids, chutes, scoured potholes, and gorges stir the river, while islands and overhanging cliffs punctuate its course. A hemlock- beech forest with cathedral pines enfolds the offering, and a tannery ruins sits trailside."

We took two kids with us on this trail and it was way too difficult for them (6&3) I would suggest that hikers with children or newer hikers start at the bottom of the trail and just do the lower section then turn around and head back to the parking lot. There are a still some steep inclines and declines but not anything like the stuff you face up by the power company. Also I almost missed the trail entrance coming in at the lower section. You need to cross the brown bridge that goes over the blue water pipes. I was a little disappointed that you couldnt see alot of the water due to the trees along the trail but there were enough places that you could view the waterfalls and a couple places that you could get out into the river that it was worth the drive.
