New York Botanical Garden—Native Forest

New York Botanical Garden—Native Forest Professional Review and Guide

"The last significant stand of untouched forest in New York City makes this a short, but fascinating, hike. In 1979 Grandmaster Flash said the Bronx seemed “like a jungle sometimes.” In the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) some of the original wilderness is still left.

One-fifth of the garden (50 acres) was set aside for a portion known as the Native Forest, which offers you the opportunity to see what New York City might have been like without the many people and buildings that are on it today. These woods haven’t been cleared since before the Dutch traded beads with the American Indians."
