    Quaker Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Quaker Lake is created by a dam on Quaker Run. Its outflow joins the Allegheny Reservoir. This reservoir was created in the 1960s when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed Kinzua Dam across the Allegheny River in Warren, Pennsylvania, as a flood control measure.

Building the Kinzua Dam was highly controversial because it flooded one-third of the Allegany Reservation of the Seneca Nation of Indians. Nearly six hundred Senecas were forced to abandon their homes and relocate, despite a 1794 treaty that had guaranteed them those lands in perpetuity. Today the reservoir is a haven for recreation. Quaker Lake is a quiet place for a leisurely paddle."
