Mianus River Gorge Preserve Professional Review and Guide
"Walk where glacial melt created a rushing river, through one of the Hudson Valley’s last remaining old-growth forests. This little gorge, the last remnant of the wild lands that existed here before the English arrived in 1683, became the catalyst for both private and federal preservation programs that protect natural landmarks across the United States. The Mianus River Gorge Preserve caught the attention of concerned citizens who made it the first land project of the Nature Conservancy in 1953. In 1964, the federal government designated the preserve as the first registered Natural Historic Landmark. Now the gorge is managed by the independent not-for-profit Mianus River Gorge Preserve, Inc."
