Cayuga / Seneca Canal - Clyde River - Erie Canal Loop

Cayuga / Seneca Canal - Clyde River - Erie Canal Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This route takes you north on the straight Cayuga-Seneca Canal through undeveloped Montezuma National Wildlife Area lands. Then, you’ll turn west onto the winding Clyde River where mature forests line the banks and spill over into the waterway. But, being wide and deep, they offer no impediment.

You’ll be surrounded with the serenade of song birds (except for the few stretches near the Thruway where car noise will drowned out the birds). The Clyde River is dammed at May’s Point. When the dam is closed the current will be barely perceptible. It can get strong when the dam is opened after heavy rains."
