Cohotate Preserve

Cohotate Preserve Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"See the Hudson River up close—right at the water level—and explore 3,000 continuous feet of sand, marshes, and historic foundations at the river’s edge. This little fifty-two-acre preserve protects something you may not find anywhere else along the river: more than half a mile of unbroken reclaimed land right at the edge of the water.

A former site of commercial ice production, which thrived here before refrigerators became household appliances, this land now provides respite and nourishment for migrating birds as they follow the river’s natural course along the Atlantic Flyway."

This is a very nice little preserve and educational/wonderful for kids. In addition to the trail map, you can take an interpretative guide on the trees in the preserve, which are clearly marked. It's very small - you can do the whole area in under an hour.
