Babcock Circumference Trail

Babcock Circumference Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Only ogres and elves are missing from this enchanting hike, which threads by bogs, boulders, and fallen trees along several meandering trails. Stone walls and catbrier carpet the undulating forest floor, making this charming preserve seem far larger than it actually is.

The dogwoods and mountain laurels explode with blossoms from late May to early June. Cross-country skiing is a popular winter activity. Horseback riding for Greenwich Riding and Trails Association members is allowed on designated trails."

Fun trail, lots of gnarly rocks and roots with decent hills and valleys. Looking forward to going back when it is more dry, recently there have been 2 major storms with significant flooding and several of the trails have long sections covered in 6 inches of water.

Delightful little bit of 'wilderness' for a rambling walk with the dogs or the kiddies. Some of the trails are relatively wide and level and so make for good trail running. There are lots of trails and they are not well marked so bring a compass;however, the park is ringed with houses so getting lost wouldn't be a particularly dangerous situation. Trails are fairly level, so this is more of a walking place than a hiking place.

I had a pleasant hike. The trail was relatively easy so much of the way I tried making it an aerobic workout. This is a good early spring trail. Just enough to get your hiking legs back in condition. I feel that much of the trail could be very muddy in a rainy period but today it was perfect. The Nature Center is definitely worth a visit.

Trail was in a lot better condition from the last time I tried it, though muddy from the rain. Lots of good ups, downs and optional trails, though still badly marked. Don't worry about losing the trail though, with the abundance of trails you'll stumble up to one after a while. Be sure to check out the old mine on the blue trail right off of the white "sierra" trail, and the mostly abandoned textile factory town of Feltville near Lake Surprise. the nice thing about this trail is the option to take harder paths or just bypass them using the numerous bridle trails around the park.
