Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Traditional Dutch ghost stories often tell of the Devil’s presence in Stony Clove, a pass through the Devil’s Path Range. Today, Stony Clove is better known as New York State Route 214, connecting the modern-day towns of Phoenicia and Hunter. The pass may be paved over, but the boulder known as the Devil’s Tombstone remains. Almost 7 feet high and 5 feet across, the impressive monolith can be found at the southern end of the humble campground that bears its name. Presumably, it was deposited there by glacial activity or a landslide. No one knows for sure."
