Blue Lakes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a lovely day hike to a unique series of small glacial lakes. The trail winds through groves of aspen and around a terminal moraine left by the ancient glacier and proceeds to Blue Lakes, a series of clear, cold lakes set in a mountain cirque.

Fed by a spring and by snowmelt, the five interconnected lakes are surrounded by a mixture of willow, aspen, pine, and mountain mahogany. A spur of Duffer Peak forms part of the scenic backdrop. The view from the trail yields vast panoramas that extend into California and Oregon. The lakes support a cold-water fishery for trout."
