Galena Creek Nature Trail Professional Review and Guide
"Galena Creek begins, as most mountain streams do, as a trickle in the snow-soaked heights of the Mount Rose Wilderness. But by the time it reaches the lowland park bearing its name, it’s become the rumbling, tumbling heart of this extremely kid-friendly (and popular) nature trail. The creek is particularly raucous in spring and early summer, when gorged with meltwater. But regardless the season and the vigor of the flow, Galena Creek supports a riparian strip lively with aspen and willow surrounded by a lovely lower montane forest dominated by Jeffrey and ponderosa pines. Check the cones to identify which tree is which: ponderosa pine cones have sharp points (prickly ponderosas), the Jeffrey cones don’t (gentle Jeffreys)."
