Jackson Mountain Macfarlane Hot Spring

Jackson Mountain (Macfarlane) Hot Spring Professional Review and Guide

"In an equally scenic setting to that of Trego Hot Spring, this hot spring also lies on the east side of the Black Rock Desert Playa. When the roads are dry, most passenger vehicles can make the trip. But a high-clearance vehicle is recommended, and a four-wheel drive is necessary when the road becomes wet or washed out.

Jackson Mountain Hot Spring consists of a small source of hot water atop a ridge of travertine. The source (about 110 degrees F) trickles down the ridge into a small pool and eventually into a small pond. At one time this pond may have offered bathing opportunities, but at present it serves more as a watering trough for cattle. Perhaps some dedicated volunteers may one dayimprove part of the spring enough to offer a soak. The breathtaking scenery of the Black Rock Desert makes up for the more limited bathing opportunities."
