Hyder Hot Spring

Hyder Hot Spring Professional Review and Guide

"A large, colorful hot spring source on an isolated hillside. Water from a smaller hot spring is trapped in a small, shallow pool that is bathable. Hyder Hot Spring rests on a small hill in an isolated portion of northern Nevada. The source itself is a large brown mound formed by mineral precipitate from the hot spring and algae living off the hot water. The hot spring water flows downhill to nurture green grasses and reeds, frequently visited by local cattle. Another smaller and less obvious source of hot water is farther downhill where water bubbles up out of the ground, eventually flowing into a small, dammed pool.

This pool presents the only bathing opportunity at Hyder Hot Spring, and is about 3 by 5 feet and 1 foot deep, at about 95 degrees F. The hill on which Hyder Hot Spring rests presents a nice vantage point on a clear day, from which most of Jersey Valley and Dixie Valley can be seen."
