Griffith Peak via Harris Springs Road

Griffith Peak via Harris Springs Road Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike is one where you can really get out and hike without meeting many people. This trail passes rocky areas, dense trees, meadows, and a high mountain peak. The fun for you and your pet is the time alone, varied landscape, and an abundance of incredible views. Griffith Peak is also accessible from the Kyle Canyon Lodge area, but this trail is much less traveled and gives you and your pet some privacy.

Be aware that the Harris Springs Road is slow going. It takes a great deal of time to get back to the parking area, and a high-clearance vehicle is necessary. There are some sharp rocks on the road so be sure to have your spare tire along. This road is very windy, so if your dog gets carsick you may want to ask your veterinarian about motion sickness pills for your dog before setting out on this trek. Under foot and paw: Gravel, rock, and dirt."

Great hike, but not for kids or people that are afraid of heights. The road from Harris Springs took about 40 min. to go 8 miles to the trailhead, do not take a car up that road! the hike to the peak is 6.2 miles one way. Once there it is worth every step. The view is amazing. The Mt. Charleston side is a shorter hike, but you will not get the views on that side of the mountain.

Loved it! The drive to the trail head is rough. Something with good ground clearance is highly recommended.

Great hike, incredible panaroma at the top. Fossils galore at the peak, green rolling hills I didn't think were possible in Vegas. It's touch, and harris road is a bitch to drive on (don't try it without 4wd and heave clearance) but it's worth it.

This was a fairly tough hike, but well worth the journey. What makes the hike worth it is the amazing views you get from not only the peak but along the entire trail. The valley Griffith Peak overlooks is beautiful. This another amazing place for photography. There are some great bristle cone pines you can set against a background of Mt Charleston. You even gain some views of the strip from the peak. Even in early fall there was still a little snow on the peak. This was one of my most rewarding hikes in the Vegas area.
