Lovell Canyon

Lovell Canyon Professional Review and Guide

"Nothing says “mysterious desert Southwest” better than a narrow slot canyon, and this is truly one of the best in this area. This hike is up the narrows of Lovell Wash, a tributary to the larger Callville Wash.

The majority of the hike is open wash; then suddenly the canyon walls narrow and you walk into this amazing slot canyon. Your pooch will appreciate the change in scenery and the cooler temperatures. It will also have a blast weaving between the tight canyon walls! Under foot and paw: Sand, gravel, and some rock."

Made a quick trip up the Canyon this afternoon. We took our truck up to the Ore Car Gem Club sign and walked the rest of the way. Our dog is older and had a few problems getting over some of the rocks in the narrows, but overall we had a lot of fun. We left the narrows at Sunset and made it out just before dark.

Excellent hike. The narrows are beautiful. Shady spots are a great place to cool down you and the dogs. Good hike for dogs that are in good shape and have good feet and dont mind being lifted up or down on some of the boulders that block the narrows.
