Trego Hot Springs

Trego Hot Springs Professional Review and Guide

"About 4 hours from Reno, Trego Hot Spring consists of a small, shallow, silty, warm-source pond that flows into a ditch and subsequently cools. The spring lies on the edge of the Black Rock Desert Playa, adjacent to the Western Pacific Railroad. Visiting this spring makes for an excellent camping trip, and can be linked to other trips.

Trego Hot Spring consists of a small pond adjacent to the spring’s source. The pond is 2 to 3 feet deep, with a silty bottom in which you’ll sink to above your ankles. The clear water is about 100 degrees F. at the source. The water flows out of the pond and into a ditch, with its temperature decreasing the farther it gets from the pond. Depending upon the time of year you visit, you may want to sample each part of this spring to find the right temperature to suit your desires."

This place is hit or miss. First time I was there was in June and the water was perfect. Second time I was there there were a lot of bugs and the water was very murky. This place is a large trough that flow from the source and gets cooler as you go downstream. A great place when there is no one around. Avoid during spring break!
