Grimes Point Archaeological Area Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A day hike on an interpretive trail featuring numerous prehistoric petroglyphs, pictographs, rock shelters, and caves. Grimes Point Archaeological Area offers two trails. The easy Petroglyph Trail is a short trail through a petroglyph boulder field.

The longer Hidden Cave Trail provides access to petroglyphs, rock shelters, and geological features. Interpretive leaflets are available at the trailhead. Hidden Cave, a major archaeological site, was used prehistorically by hunter-gatherers as a cache or storage site. The cave was occupied between 3,400 and 4,000 years ago. Free public tours of the cave begin in Fallon at 9:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The trails are open to the public all year."

Loop through boulder field is easy to follow and very well maintained. Lots of people have been here and can tell from the abuse to the boulders. Good hike for the Kids.
