Soldier Lakes Basin

Soldier Lakes Basin Professional Review and Guide

"Nearly equal to Lamoille Canyon in scenic attributes, the northern section of the Ruby Mountains sees far fewer visitors. Although there are no guarantees that you will be completely alone while traveling in Soldier Lakes Basin, you?re more likely to see cows than people. Plenty of lakes, six in all and each with its own charm, provide bountiful opportunities for exploration and enjoyment. The rugged peaks standing guard over the basin will lure explorers and mountaineers as well.

If fishing is on your itinerary, this trip is hard to beat as the lakes teem with fish and receive light pressure from anglers. The sunrises are incomparable as well. The first part of the trail ascends Soldier Creek canyon, holding a boisterous, rowdy stream that tumbles down the narrow gorge amid a diverse collection of wildflowers, shrubs, and trees along the banks. Above the canyon, a broad plateau cradles not only the lakes but a number of wildflower-laden meadows also."
