Echo Lake

Echo Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A 2-or 3-day cross-country and trail backpack trip through a rugged but scenic, less traveled area of the popular Ruby Mountains. Follow the Ruby Crest Trail to Lamoille Lake, then leave the trail and-skirting the lake on either side —climb to the saddle at the head of Box Canyon. Now contour to the right around the head of Box Canyon and generally work east to the saddle south of Echo Lake.

This traverse is strenuous, but the fine views and the two small unnamed hanging lakes are worth it. It is probably easier to descend into Box Canyon and climb up the side drainage to the saddle south of Echo Lake. From this saddle, drop down to the lake; there are campsites in the trees near the outlet."
