Desert Trail Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge Section

Desert Trail: Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge Section Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A multi-day hike along the remote Desert Trail. Unlike other national trails, the Desert Trail is not a constructed or clearly defined path but rather a corridor through which you may pass, choosing your own specific route. The purpose is to avoid leaving a beaten path by minimizing your impact on soils and vegetation.

The trail follows roads and also goes cross-country. Stay on the described route to avoid private land. It is highly recommended that you have the USGS topographic maps. This description follows the Desert Trail from south to north. The trail begins at the southern boundary of the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge near Cottonwood Canyon. You may wish to camp and begin your hike about 1.5 miles to the north at Cottonwood Spring or at one of the two camping areas that are about 0.2 mile north of the boundary fence. You must have the USGS topographic maps and a compass to do this hike."
