Juniper Ridge Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This is an ideal short hike to take during your afternoon drive around Scenic Loop Drive, perhaps after your visit to the cave earlier that morning. Unlike most other hikes in the park, however, the trail to the north boundary does not follow a canyon bottom. Instead, it's a short walk in the desert and serves as a good introduction to desert hiking. Another good plan is to take this hike early in the morning before the desert heats up. This gives you a better chance the see wildlife and the gorgeous morning light highlighting the desert landscape. Then, about the time the sun is bearing down hard, you can head for the cool depths of the cave.
The trail is fairly easy to follow. It’s well defined in some places, not in others, but in all cases well-placed cairns show the way. With a few small switchbacks, the trail heads north up a moderately steep upgrade for about a mile up to the fence line that marks the park boundary."
