"Like most of northern New Mexico, the area near this water was settled by the Spanish centuries ago. Though as the crow flies it’s not far from the sophisticated streets of Santa Fe, this area is world’s apart in other respects. Patience and good manners are valued here. Boundaries between public and private property may be unclear. Forest Service maps are excellent references. If you’re in doubt, respectfully ask permission to fish.
The Vallecitos originates in the middle of New Mexico’s San Juan Mountains. It flows almost entirely through private land until just below Vallecitos Ranch, where it enters the Carson National Forest. This is the fishable section. Types of Fish: Rainbow and brown trout.
